Today, I thought that I would like to share some of my thoughts with you, it's a cold Winters day here in the Western Cape in South Africa. I live in a small town near George, we have a very mixed population, a lot of older folk as many have retired here next to the sea, a fair number of middle aged and not so old oldies, we also have younger families who prefer the sporting lifestyle that this town offers like our world class golf courses, hang gliding, deep sea fishing, horse riding, mountain biking, hiking and so much more (not that I do sport of any kind). What is so brilliant is that everybody gets along together, when we had such bad floods 2 weeks ago, the whole town rallied to help each other. Then on the down side, we have the National road, running right through the middle of our town, bringing with it the normal roadhogs, huge trucks with airbrakes screeching, and the bane of my life the motorcyclists that are noisy, smelly and have no regard for person or animal in their way, they have already caused a number of accidents in our town. We also get the gentleman motorcyclists that are polite, law abiding and friendly, these we welcome.
I am looking out of my window and it is now 17h30 on a Saturday afternoon, the road is empty, the wind is blowing the wet leaves along the gutters and the seagulls are squabbling on the roof tops of the shopping mall, they are contesting the squatting rights of the Egyptian Geese, who are settling down for the night. These large gulls with black backs and fierce beaks rule the skies over our town, they strut along the sidewalks, their bright beady eyes keeping a sharp lookout for anything remotely edible, then quickly grabbing it and swallowing before it is snatched away by a rival gull.
Let's see what tomorrow brings.....
